Outlander Film Locations Tour

The Outlander TV series, based on the books by Diana Gabaldon, has caught the imagination of viewers worldwide. A Highlands love story that centres around Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser is a historical time travel story set in 1940’s wartime and 18th century Scotland. The filming of the series has shown the many beautiful sights that Scotland has to offer, along with its history, and we are now offering our new Outlander Tours to the many thousands of tourists that want to visit the famous filming locations used by the programme.

Visit the fictional homes of the main characters plus other key locations:

Jamie Fraser’s home of Lallybroch

Midhope Castle

A 15 th century castle known as Lallybroch in the programme, it is the birthplace and family home of Jamie Fraser and features regularly during series 1 & 2.

Colum MacKenzie’s Castle Leoch

Doune Castle

This stunning castle plays a leading role in the show, the fictional Castle Leoch, home to Colum MacKenzie and his clan in the 18 th century. It also features in the 20 th century when Claire and Frank visit the castle in ruins on a day trip.

Gellis Duncan’s home of Cranesmuir

Culross

The rustic village of Culross, sitting on the bank of the Firth of Forth, is transformed into the fictional village of Cranesmuir where Geillis lives. Behind Culross Palace is the location used for Claire’s herb garden in the programme.

Jack Randall’s home Fort William

Blackness Castle

Standing looking out over the Firth of Forth, this 15 th century fortress provides the setting for the Fort William headquarters of Black Jack Randall, as well as featuring in the heart-wrenching scene of Jamie’s incarceration.

MacKenzie village

Newtonmore

The museum has six replica Highland Crofts, exactly like those featured in the programme from the 18 th century.

Wentworth Prison

Linlithgow Palace

The entrance and corridors of this ruined palace are used as Wentworth Prison where Jamie was imprisoned.

Inverness

Falkland village

One of the first scenes of the TV series is the picturesque town of Falkland, which substitutes for 1940s (series 1) and 1960s (series 2) Inverness. The Bruce Fountain is where the ghost of Jamie looks at Claire’s room. The Covenanter Hotel stands in for Mrs Baird’s Guesthouse.

Battle of Culloden

Inverness

The location for the final battle and massacre of the Jacobites. Claire tries to prevent the battle she knows will decimate Jamie’s Jacobite rebels, a major theme for series 2 of the programme.
